Chloe Harthan (b. 2002) is an interdisciplinary painter based in Chicago, IL . She most frequently makes meticulous body and skin studies that discuss taboo, humor, shame, and intimacy. In her practice, she exercises a curiosity of where hyper-specific points transform into the universal. Her work is crass but also sensitive, as she makes portraits of buttcracks, armpits, and skin as a meditative endurance exercise. The body defines the boundaries of subject matter, while repetitive precision leads to abstraction. She investigates the edge between microcosmic parts of the body and the panoptic whole. Harthan has shown work at various exhibitions across the U.S., and she operates artist-run gallery Point Blank in Chicago. She graduated from the School of the Art Institute in 2024.
